Experience in Architecture
At the beginning of the 21st century, country houses in the Moscow region and the Meshcherskoye palace and park ensemble (Solntsevsky district, Moscow) were built based on the designs of Andrey Muntz. He also took part in the design of the Donskoye Podvorye and Copernicus residential complexes, and in the development of the facades of the Zaryadye complex.
Painting
Starting 1990, he succeeded as a renowned painter and graphic artist. His pictorial art is interconnected with one of the most vivid and wide-known tradition of Russian avant-garde — abstract expressionism.
Art styles and techniques
Muntz adheres to the method of intuitive production, claiming to create his artworks in emotions, not the paint itself.
“I try to imagine myself as a free artist, not limited by any long-term creative attitude associated with one or another direction in art. Constant search is all that matters to me. I am eager to be open-minded and be receptive to new ideas.”
There seems to be no leading line in Muntz’ artwork. He masterfully experiments in diverse directions such as the field of pure abstract art with intense emotional flow. In his art abstract objects are intertwined with physical objects.
A big area in the artist's work is dedicated to real and fictional architectural and sculptural images.
Muntz experiments with both pictorial and graphic techniques. He uses every technique possible: Muntz paints in oils, acrylics, on canvas,
on oilcloth, on cardboard and even on iron.
He works imaginatively in etching and drypoint techniques, working out finished prints with oil pastels.
Muntz’ paintings leave room for different interpretations. The viewer is involved in the creative process, conjecturing the picture in the direction that was set by the artist.
